Her job description when she wasn't in the back taking care of kids consisted of sitting around all day at the 'desk' that was really a table with a sheet over it and various tools of the trade lying about, and waiting for parents - usually single ones, more often than not mothers - to come in, drop off their kids, and head off, so it was rare that much of interest occurred. Besides when she maybe studied the parents to see if she could spot anything peculiar about them, but it was rare that that happened.

So when the bell above the door gave off a tiny 'bing', she was quick to take a look to see if it was at the very least a parent she'd seen enough to maybe converse with a little. Unfortunately the entering pair - which sure enough consisted of a presumably single mother and a daughter - was not familiar to her, but there were definitely things about the two of them that caused confusion.

Seeing the mother wasn't so odd at first glance-- it was a blonde woman, who looked incredibly cheerful and wore a purple T-shirt with red overalls while holding the hand of a girl who was maybe eight or nine... and oddly enough looked much more serious than her mother, including in outfit as she was dressed in such a way that were she older would've looked like she was heading for a business meeting. For that matter it looked like she was leading her mother along... Were it not for the way the daughter was dressed things'd probably seem a bit more par-for-the-course in the sense of a little girl annoyed at the concept of daycare, but as things stood the brunette late-teenage girl running the desk was confused.

"Hi!" The adult of the pair waved enthusiastically to her, which only further confounded the matter. Ditto when it was the daughter who started speaking next.

"Excuse me..."

The blonde's head was about the only thing visible over the table/sheet coupling being passed off as a desk, so the young woman running the desk did not immediately register than she was the one being spoken to. It was when she did clearly see the girl looking straight at her that it became evident.

Then she kept talking. "I'm here to drop off Chrissy Vance," she said, motioning to her mother. "We registered here about a week ago?"

In response the girl behind the table merely blinked in response, before sighing slightly. There was no way this was happening... "Okay, kid. Stop playing around, I don't have time for this." Okay, working the desk she really had all the time in the world (at least until quittin' time), but still. Putting up with bad jokes by immature parents and their daughters wasn't exactly something she felt like doing...

"I'm not..." The little girl seemed to be growing annoyed, but she was also trying to keep her patience. "You can go ask your boss. I--"

"Nice try. Look, if the two of you aren't going to take this seriously get out, please."

The teenager turned her head downward and pretended to start writing something (well, okay, she was writing something but it was only on her half-done grocery list she'd been prodding along at), hoping that would serve as a cue for them to go away. When she looked up a few seconds later and saw they had not, she groaned.

"'Nerva--"

"One second, okay Mom?" The girl turned her head back toward the teenager running the counter, who at this point was growing visibly angry with the progression of events at hand. "If you check your files--"

"Err... Fine. But when they aren't here, you two had better go ahead and leave. Got it?" The intention was of course to check and then, once it came up that there was nothing of the sort there, use that as her final excuse to get rid of them. Things sort of fell apart at the 'came up nothing' part.

"Um... what the he-- err..." Okay, she was definitely going looking for a new job to jump to as soon as she got home that evening. This was just too weird. "Fine..." After filling out some quick paper work, her pencil breaking once during the process (while Chrissy watched, slightly oblivious to her mood, and her daughter donned a smirk of slight amusement), the girl looked up once more to give a simple, defeated sigh. "Alright, you're set."

As the pair of blondes exchanged goodbyes and meeting times and a hug (that Chrissy had to bend her knees quite a bit to deliver) and more surprisingly typical goodbyes for a pair of freaks, the girl behind the counter could only look away in annoyance and slight disgust. Seriously, what in God's name was up with these people?

Then the daughter headed off, leaving her alone with the woman in the overalls. "You can, uh... You can head on back..."

Chrissy just sort of stared for a second, but afterwards she started to walk to the door... only for it to open, and for a redheaded woman about her age to come through.

"Hey, Taylor," the redhead sniffled, which was suddenly not a good sign; normally it would've been welcome when she was working the makeshift desk, but... "Got a cold, so boss is having you work in there while I take over here. Lucky you, huh?"

After biting her lip for a second (mostly since her co-worker said it without irony), the brunette girl sighed before motioning for Chrissy to follow her into the backroom. The blonde for her part nodded before starting to follow; they got through the door and a few steps inside before a problem arose. In the air.

And to the brunette's horror, the blonde claimed it with a giggle, "Ooh, canya change ma diapee?"
Fic request / gift for :iconlance-the-young:, centering around his Chrissy and Minerva characters.

Had a lot of fun with this, especially with Taylor who kind of has potential as the one sane girl. Might have to do more with her sometime...

Anyway, feedback would be greatly appreciated. ^^
