Cassie whimpered a little-- cool air plus a shirt (basically a dress at this point, at least as it related to her body) that had been wet for at the least a few hours if not all night did not a pleasant combination make. Hoping to warm herself up a little, Cassie buried her body into Kirk's as much as she could. At this point being put into a diaper and some new clothes sounded almost welcome.
A tiny blush crossed Kirk's face when he looked down to see his crush cuddling him. But quickly he grinned and gave her another gentle squeeze with one arm, "Aw, don't worry. You'll be back to normal in no time. I'm sure!"
For his part, Robin blinked confusedly at the sight before tugging on his younger/elder brother's sleeve, "Uh... babies supplies are on that aisle." He pointed over toward Kirk's left, feeling as if the ninja was enjoying himself entirely too much.
Somehow the blonde found herself feeling a little more optimistic just hearing Robin's bi-- little brother's words. It was like because he said it'd be okay it would. Without really noticing, Cassie stuck her thumb in her mouth as she remained buried into Kirk's shirt.
The eight-year-old grinned at her, holding her close to keep her warm as he moved toward the aisle filled with soft, plastic, pastelle-colored products. He started looking over everything, baby bottles, formula, pacifiers, and it started to occur to him how much if took to care for babies. With a gulp, he started praying that this would all get fixed soon. He didn't really know if he had it in him to be a big brother....
As the very end of the shelves though, he saw all the different sizes and brands of diapers stored. Kirk started moving toward them, a little worried that Cassie might have an accident while she was snuggling him.
"I think we might need to get two different sizes," he heard someone say as he approached. There was a girl holding the hand of a pigtailed toddler with another in her arms, "Why won't Lita answer her phone? She's the one with all the younger siblings...."
"Juith!" screamed the child that was walking, in a manner that seemed to sound like it wasn't exactly the first time she had yelled this. "Wan' juith!" She looked younger than the two babies Kirk was holding.
Cassie remained unaware of this over than vaguely hearing the various sounds made by those around her. All she cared about as she unknowingly sucked on her thumb like there was no tomorrow was that she was finally about to get out of that icky shirt.
"Oh... uh... here." The girl, clearly looking like she was under stress, scooped up her charge with the unoccupied arm. "There, you feel better now? Huh?" She let out a sigh, "I didn't get a lot of what you said already so it figures..."
Robin blinked, suddenly feeling a wave of relief at having someone probably much more reliable enter what was largely a hopeless situation, "Sam! Sam, it's us!"
Cassie's head raised at Robin's exclamation and she turned to face Sam. By now a little drool was running down the side of her thumb and mouth, but Cassie was still unaware that she had ever put the thumb in there much less that she was sucking on it as passionately as she was. "Mm mmm nm" Cassie stopped as she heard what was supposed to be the words she had on her mind, finally realizing what she'd been doing. As red as a tomato Cassie pulled the digit out of her mouth. "Uh... do you know Who' happened?"
It was then that the girl with the pigtails went from screaming to throwing a full-on tantrum. "NO NO NO!!! WAN' APPUH JUITH!"
Sam was about to answer when Jo's tantrum broke out. Although she now got what the toddler meant, she still felt totally clueless in the broader sense, "Oh a-apple juice. Alright, Jo. I'll get you some as soon as we get you dressed, okay?"
But as the cheerleader bounced the little girl in her arms, the other, with spiky hair which just barely reached down to her shoulders, rolled her eyes, "Dun encowage her, Sam! Dis's a vewy di-a situashun." The two-year-old turned to Cassie, noting the drool on her chin, "I wa' as supwised as you. Ah jus' woke up wike 'dis and managed to caww Sam."
Cassie used the same slobber-covered hand to smack herself in the head. Sure, she could've just called someone. Par for the course, really. "Di' you... um..." Cassie just sorta nodded toward the shirt, which still was giving off two distinct smells. "Me an' Wobin did..."
Jo silenced almost totally between Sam's words and her actions. Ony a small giggle escaped every few seconds which, while a little distracting, wasn't quite as painful for the ears.
Alex flushed for a moment before turning away, "I dun shee how dats' any-a yer busnuss."
The eldest person in that particular aisle looked down at the little happy girl she was holding and smiled. It was hard taking care of babies but when they were happy she felt happy too. She bent down and kissed Jo on her forehead, "Good girl."
Cassie just grunted angrily and returned to her former position. She had just started getting cold again anyway. Though there was else bothering her... The blonde's tumm-- stomach growled as if to flat-out tell her what it was.
Jo giggled a little as Sam's lips touched her head. Unfortunately, however, Jo's bliss wouldn't last as she saw something on one of the shelves that was even more desirable than her juice-- a rattle. Without any indication it was going to happen, Jo started ferociously trying to reach out and grab one of the ones on the shelf.
"So, uh... You all need diapers too?" Kirk stepped forward, lowering his brother down onto the limoneum floor while still holding Cassie. He felt really upstaged by this new cheerleader girl, like he was losing his chance to prove himself to Robin and the black-banged girl. Still, he wasn't going to go down without a fight.
"Yeah. I guess we'll need to buy two packs-- JO!" Sam's attentions were suddenly brought to the little girl squirming to get out of her grip. Putting Alex on her bottom on the floor, she took a firmer grip on the energetic toddler, not wanting her to fall out of her arms and hurt herself.
Unfortunately for Sam, Jo was never a weak girl (or guy, for that matter) and as such she was still able to fight quite ferociously to get loose. Luckily however (or maybe not), Jo's renewed tantrum suddenly stopped, as a golden liquid chose to release itself right as she was about to complete for escape.
Cassie chose right then to speak up. "I'm kin'a hundery... an' cold..."
Sam eeped, suddenly holding Jo at arm's length by the underarms. Hearing the splatter onto the hard floor, she turned to address Cassie, "I guess we should get you all dressed then..." Still gripping Jo so that her tiny bladder could empty itself and make more work for some more Janitor later, she reached out and grabbed a pack of what she hoped would be the right sized diaper for the toddlers.
Kirk blinked at the little girl in his arms before smiling. In a moment he had unwrapped the scarf around his neck and placed it gently around her. It covered almost her entire upper torso, and would hopefully keep her warm. Although he didn't put it anywhere near her lower body, since he didn't want her to get it stained. Once she had been bundled up with that, he held her close to him, hugging her affectionately, "How's that?"
"Bedder," Cassie said, though she also found herself feeling 'bedder' for other reasons, some of which she knew and some she didn't. Though she still wanted to be cleaned up, dressed, and fed as soon as possible.
Jo, on the other hand started wailing, though she wasn't kicking or thrashing or anything like that. Still, she was screaming loud enough to make one's ears bleed.
Kirk smiled, letting her lie against his chest, only to take a step away when Jo began crying. Suddenly dropped the pack of diapers in shock, bringing both hands back to holding the little girl, "Jo, don't cry. Everything's okay! Auntie Sam's here..." See that she'd mostly stopped relieving herself, she pulled the little girl close into a comforting hug. "Everything's gonna be fine."
"Wash it!" Alex called up from the floor, the dropped pack of diapers almost crushing her and Robin. With a sigh, she grabbed the seemingly-huge plastic wrapping with her tiny hands and trying to rip it apart, "We'ww jus' hafta open it hewe. I wanna haff somethin' covwin' my body!"
Jo's crying didn't stop, but it did lower its decibel value by a noticeable degree. She tried as best she could to return the hug as the last bit of pee left her body.
Cassie's head raised again, turning to the floor where Robin, Alex, and a pack of diapers all lay. "I do too," Cassie mumbled with a bit of a sigh in response to Alex's last statement.
"Alright, just hang on..." Kirk knelt down and pulled one of the folded undergarments from the rip in the wrapping. He smiled before looking from the little object to Cassie and back again, "Um... how do you...."
"Lemme handle that," said Sam, taking the diaper from him and putting Jo on the cold floor. "We'll start with her. Maybe she'll stop crying...."
Jo shook a little when she touched the floor, but otherwise did nothing but continue to sob. Until she saw the plastic item in Sam's hands, after which she moved her legs so that her ankles were pressed together, almost like instinct on her part.
Cassie's eyes widened for the hundredth time that morning as she saw the diaper, almost like it hit her full-on what she was about to have put on her. "I... uh..." She was sweating up a storm suddenly, making the third secretion from her body that she was currently covered in.
The eldest girl on the cheerleading team blinked, unsure of what Jo meant here. Still, she took her ankles and used them to lift up the lower half of her body, sliding the diaper between her rear and the oversized Magical Girl nightshirt she'd been wearing for a dress. In case she was still nervous, she gave the little tot a smile and tickled her a little in the tummy.
"Black-banged girl?" Kirk stared at his little charge, bouncing her a little. "Are you okay? Now you look hot."
Jo giggled a little. She did feel a lot better now, though she still wanted her rattle and her juice.
Cassie, however, did not quite feel so good. She squeaked a little in response to Kirk, not entirely sure how to add to what had been said but still feeling the need to give a reply of some sort.
Sam let out a relieved sigh when she saw her little friend was settling down. Grabbing a bottle of talcum from the shelf, she powdered Jo's bottom and taped on the diaper as best she could. It was a little big on her, but she hoped it'd be the right size for the rest of them. "There, how's that sweetie?"
As Kirk hugged Cassie again just because he felt he should, Alex tapped her foot, "Good, now wet's moof dis awong. I wanna go to da cwothes secshun of da stowe next..." Robin nodded as well. He was already dressed but his Pull-Ups were getting increasingly itchy as time went on....
Jo gave a little gurgle to show her appreciation, before pulling herself to her feet with a great deal of difficulty. Once she was back up, Jo immediately toddled over to the shelf she'd been trying to reach earlier and began jumping up and down, trying to reach.
Something about the hug calmed down Cassie to some degree, but she was still rather panicked. What she saw of Jo's changing looked like the most embarrassing thing in the world, and Cassie knew there was going to be a lot more to her own. The blonde's eyes watered at the thought, but she quickly blinked the tears away and hoped they had gone unnoticed.
Sam smiled and easily reached up to grab the rattle and handed it to Jo. Fortunately it wasn't wrapped, but just had a price tag attached. Once she handed it to her friend, she gave her a pat on the head. She then turned back and looked at the rest of the toddlers, "Alright, so who's next?"
Robin rose his hand, blushing deeply. His Pull-up was now soaked, "M-Me... But I don't want Sam to do it." He took a step back and tugged on his brother's shorts.
Jo shook the precious object like her life depended on it, grinning ear to ear all the while. In that moment she was in Heaven.
Cassie turned a little to get another look at the giant that was holding her, then shuddered a little at the thought of him doing anything but holding her... and even that was a bit repulsive. "Aftuh 'im is me. I wan' Th-- SUH-am."
"Alright!" Kirk grinned mischievously as he took Robin's hand. Then he suddenly set Cassie down, putting her bottom onto the cold limonium floor and pulling away with all his comfort and bodily warmth. "You just sit there, I'll be back once I've changed my baby brother's diaper."
"KIRK!" Robin glared as his brother grabbed another diaper and lead him off toward the end of the aisle.
Cassie felt the goop covering her backside squish around a little and shivered with how unpleasant it was. It didn't help much that the cold air was again hitting her soaked shirt, making Cassie very uncomfortable. "Uh... Sam... t... cuh-an you huwwy?"
"Sure," said the cheerleader, pulling her closer. "You look really uncomfortable." Grabbing a pack of cold wipes she lifted Cassie's legs and started slowly cleaning her lower torso. "How's that feel, huh?"
"O... okay..." Cassie mumbled a little in response, though it also felt pretty weird. At this point Cassie was practically praying that she either returned to normal soon or was a fast learner.
Sam smiled at her, trying to get the little girl to perk up. Once she had her bottom and legs clean, she reached up and stroked her hair for a moment before sliding a clean diaper under her and taping it on.
Cassie did let out a very slight, barely noticeable smile. It felt good being cleaned up, and the plastic underwear itself was surprisingly comfy. She was almost immediately brought back to reality, however, as a shiver escaped. "T-- cuh-an we get clo's aftuh Alet's done?"
"Sure... In fact, we should probably get you out of this." Sam gently slid the nightshirt over Cassie's head, sticking it in her backpack. "Alex and Jo's clothes didn't get so dirty...." She then pulled the tot close, setting her in her lap as Alex toddled forward, "Now just sit here and we'll get you dressed soon, kay?"
Cassie nodded a little, feeling more than a little dazed. Somehow all of this seemed vaguely familiar too her, which was a bit strange. With nothing better to do Cassie started looking back and forth between the items on the shelves-- and practically jumped out of her skin as she made a startling realization.
Sam meanwhile just started powdering her best friend, then suddenly stopped when she felt Cassie's jump, "Cassie? Something wrong?" Alex meanwhile grumbled about being interrupted in the middle of getting dressed, prompting Sam to eep and tape the fresh diaper on.
She couldn't read a thing! She could vaguely recognize some letters here and there, but the overall words they were forming she could interpret as nothing but strange combinations of them. Almost like she was too zoned out to answer Sam's question, Cassie merely backed herself into the cheerleader as far as she could and began shaking, genuiely scared by this discovery.
"Cassie?" Sam hugged her, trying to get the shaking toddler under control. "It's alright, sweetie. We'll get through this." Bending over, she planted a kiss on her forehead, right between her two black bangs.
"Yeah, said Alex, tugging at her new underwear as she sat on Sam's knee. "You can't admit defeet jus' ova dis! Weh musht discova da cause an' den westaw awshelves ta nawmah!"
Cassie didn't calm down in the slightest, still for the most part tuning out the world around her. Her quivering right arm extended slowly, until her chubby pointer finger was serving its purpose in the direction of what she was pretty sure was a word on the package of diapers. "W-wook..."
"Absorbent?" Sam stroked Cassie's hair gently, a light frown on her face, "Would you prefer that brand? I didn't really think it mattered...."
Cassie shook her head and pointed again, this time adding, "Alets! Look!" She could only hope it wasn't just her who was suddenly illiterate.
The military mastermind brought her eyes up to the package, squinting, then blinking at the lettering, "I-I can't wead!" She quickly started looking around the store, glancing at labels and phrases only to find everything was in a language that was certainly not English...
"You... You can't?" Sam grabbed a nearby picture book, pointing at the word "Dog" on the cover, "See? You can read that, can't you?"
Cassie slid herself over slightly from where she was sitting so she could get a look, still feeling rather frightened and quivering because of it. "Um... um..." She said softly as she tried her best to piece together the strange symbols into something coherent. "I cuh-an'd..."
"Gah! Dish forsh has taken ova mah mind!" cried Alex, grabbing her hair. Feeling both the toddlers uneasiness, particularly Cassie's shaking, Sam wrapped an arm around each and held them close, "Shhh. It'll be okay.
"Uh... Guys?" Sam looked up from her cuddling to see Kirk walking back towards them, looking apologetic and holding Robin's hand, "Uhh... we kinda ran into someone we know..."
Cassie sniffled. She was silently crying by now, and her thumb had found its way back into her mouth. This time she was aware of it, she just didn't care; it was comforting after all. However, a certain part of her was curious as to who it was Robin and Kirk had encountered, so she gradually pulled herself up while turning around, until her tiny hands were lying on Sam's left shoulder and she was facing the two boys.
"Black banged girl?" Kirk took several steps forward, picking her up out of Sam's arms and holding her close, "What'd you do to her? Why's she crying now?"
Sam squirmed, feeling guilty, "Um... there was a sudden loss of literacy and she's kinda... upset." Robin meanwhile staggered toward Alex, the new arrival following after him.
"C-tan you g-det me dwessed so we can ge' away from all dese w-wowds?" Cassie awkwardly asked through her tears, not bothering to correct Sam on that it was more than just her literacy but the fact that she felt like she'd lost all of her skills but speech-- and even that wasn't exactly perfect either.
"Hi little baby!" greeted Robin's 'guest', a blonde quite a bit taller than the babies (but still very small) to Alex. "What's your name?" A careful eye would've revealed that only six people were in the aisle, compared to the seven that should've been.
Alex blinked, staring stupidly at the gigantic four-year-old, mouth open. "A-Awects. Wha-whatsh yers?"
"Sure," said Kirk, hugging Cassie tight and wrapping the scarf around her so that it covered her better. "We'll go find something for you to wear."
It was at that point it hit Sam that the tiny sound of a rattling shaking hadn't been heard in several minutes. Suddenly unnerved, she glanced around the aisle. "..... Jo? Sweetie?"
"I'm Lilly!" The girl, who was wearing a pink dress with puffy sleeves and a red lowercase 'e' on the center of it, said. "You want to play with me?"
Sam's call for Jo wielded no response. And there was no hope for it doing so, unless her voice were to be able to carry to the point that it could be heard in a vacant men's bathroom across the store, much less over the sound of a naked toddler giggling.
Alex blushed, looking uncomfortable, "Uh... I kinda gotsa get some cwothes...."
"JO?!" Sam's face was suddenly a mask of worry. Jo was smaller then anyone else, and by her behavior, much more effected mentally. She couldn't go wandering about by herself. Against her will her brain started playing out the nightmare-scenarios of every parent, from her little friend getting hit by an ice cream truck to getting grabbed by a child abductor. She turned to Kirk, flitting, "Look, you and Lilly take everyone to get dressed! I have to go find Jo, alright?"
"Yes, maam!" said Kirk doing a salute with the hand not holding Cassie. "I will not fail my mission!" He lifted his crush a little higher, still hugging her tight and took his brother's hand to lead him toward the circular rack of baby clothes.
Lilly mimicked the big boy's hand salute to Alex. "Yay! Right after you get dressed we can play!"
Cassie's head tilted down a little to face Robin, who could see that her face was red, puffy, and wet. "Tan... Tan you stiww wead?" she asked him, hoping that it wasn't just her and Alex. The more the better-- it meant she wasn't going insane.
Robin blushed a little, feeling embarrassed, "I can a little... I kinda first noticed it when I couldn't understand my clock radio when I woke up..."
Alex blushed, feeling really awkward, but returned the salute, with much more control and professionalism, due to her years as a military nut.
If her face wasn't already red it would've turned it right then. Almost automatically Cassie asked another question, again wanting to compare her crush's situation to her own. "Um... a-awe you weawin' more Pull-Upth or a diapuh?"
Lilly tousled the strange jagged hair of the blonde baby who was saluting her. "Hey, you can be like my own little sister! Want me to help the ninja boy dress you, huh, Baby Alex?"
After a moment, Robin turned even redder as he reached down to scratch himself through his shorts, which were suddenly a lot bulkier, "A.. a diaper. We didn't wanna open another box since we already gotta pay for that packa diapers an' th' clothes..."
Alex blushed, fixing her hair indignantly, but still reached up to hold Lilly's hand, "Dun caww me 'baby'..... But yeah, you wemind me ofa giw ah know..."
Cassie nodded a little, secretly pleased that he was at least on her level as far as what underwear she needed. Suddenly a loud gurgle escaped the black-banged babe's be-- stomach, another sign of her growing hunger.
"How cute! Baby sister has a little friend!" Lilly was listening as well as always.
"Yeah. I guess we gotta feed her once we're done here." Kirk gave Cassie another little hug, rather unnerved by her talk with Robin. He was the older brother now, and she said offers went to the elder one...
Alex for her part flushed and grumbled at being referred to as such. She never had any siblings or attentive parents, so the squad were her only friends.... Still, she tightened her grip on Lilly's hand as they came in front of the rack of baby clothes.
Cassie had by now returned to her thumb to her mouth, and was slurping on it rather loudly. It was doing a great job relieving stress, as was the thought that she'd soon be dressed and on her way to... wait, where exactly were they going? Eh, she was sure Sam and Kirk had decided on that much, so there was no need to worry herself about it.
Lilly turned her head away from her 'little sister' as the two walked, only to turn back just a second or two later. "You're so cute, Baby Alex!"
Kirk approached the rack, looking through some of the clothes and frowning, "Uh... Do you see anything you like?" He rose Cassie in his arms a bit. Choosing outfits wasn't really something he did on a regular basis. It made him feel really girly.
Alex for her part grumbled a, "Tank you", taking Lilly's hand and pulling her towards the rack. "I wann' wear dat' one!" She said, pointing at a red-and-white dress. It was well out of her reach though, her fingers being able to do little more than graze the hem when she was on tip-toe.
Sam, meanwhile was heading straight toward the candy aisle, which was the most logical place to look for Jo. She was pleased to find the wrapped packages all over the floor, clearly tampered with. Her prey was just here.....
Cassie removed her thumb, and, with a bit of built up drool making her voice sound like she was in a bubble, said, "I don' care. Just wan' some close." Kirk wasn't the only one who wasn't big on shopping for clothes-- especially when the clothes in question were meant for babies.
Robin also quickly became distinterested since he was already dressed. With all the other kids having their back to him, he started strolling around idlely, swinging an imaginary sword against an imaginary knight.
"Uh... okay." Kirk blushed as he grabbed a ruffly yellow dress off the rack. Just holding it made him feel like a girl.... "Will this do?"
"Um... sure," Cassie said, sounding anything but sure but not really caring about what she was wearing so long as she was wearing it.
Seeing Alex's struggle, Lilly reached and rather easily got down the dress the toddler was trying so hard to reach. "Need help puttin' it on?"
"Alright." Kirk set the toddler on her feet. After removing his scarf, he brought her arms up and pulled the dress down over her head.
Alex blushed, feeling awkward and gave herself a glance, "Uh... yeah. I tink I might..."
Leaving the candy aisle, Sam walked toward the back of the store. Fearing she'd lost Jo's trail, she grabbed the nearest passer-by, a little boy in a red cap, "Excuse me, have you seen a little girl in pigtails?"
Cassie found the interior of the dress to be a bit itchy, but for the most part it was better than being cold and nearly naked. Her mom'd always said yellow looked good on her anyway.
Lilly mimicked Kirk's actions almost exactly, albeit a bit sloppier due to there being much less of a size difference between her and Alex. "How's that, baby sister?"
The cheerlead was pointed in the direction of the bathrooms. She rushed towards them, only to hear a familiar giggling from the men's side. With hesitation, she rushed in, spotting and immediately scooping up her little friend naked on the floor.
"There you are! You can't run away...." She suddenly noticed all the current occupents of the Men's Room staring at her. A blush crossed her face. To try and avoid questions on what she was doing with a two-year-old, she chagned her tone, "Uh... You've been very naughty, young lady! I can't take my eyes off you for two seconds!" She began to back out towards the door, still scolding the toddler, "Mom and Dad aren't gonna be happy when they heard you ran away like this."
---
A short time later (namely after Jo had been dressed and the goods had been rung up and paid for), the party of seven was walking down the street... well, some of them were walking. In the case of Jo that wasn't the smartest path to take.
"Umm..." Cassie trailed off for a second, but quickly returned to speaking. "Whewe are we eatind?"
"I dunno...." Kirk looked ahead at Sam, who, as the oldest person amongst them, was the one in charge. She frowned, turning behind her to see the five children, as well as the one in her arms, and gave a small smile, "I guess we could go back to my place and I could try to cook something. Then maybe we can try figuring this out."
"Wait!" Robin got a look on his face as though he'd juts remembered something. Rushing forward, he tugged on his brother's shorts, "We should try to find Jason. He'll probably be in the right state and know how to contact Anne!"
Cassie used her left hand to scratch her stomach, even though in all honesty it probably wasn't helping much with the itching dress. "Thuh-at's a good idea," Cassie said with a shrug, at this point willing to put aside her jealously if it meant she could return to normal.
Her stomach chose to voice a protest of its own after she had finished speaking. "I... um... I 'an wait..." Her still weird but a bit more familiar to her by now voice clearly sounded otherwise, but Cassie was trying hard to keep some dignity.
As Robin toddled up to take Sam's hand, the cheerleader got a thoughtful look on her face, "You really are pretty hungry, huh..." Not one to let cute little children be left starving in the world, the meek girl turned to address all four of the people walking behind her. "Hey, how about this; I'll take Robin, and Jo to find Jason, and the rest of you can head to my house and get these two fed." She turned, pointing into the distance, "You see that blue house on the corner way over there? That's where I live. You two can take Cassie and Alex there for some food. That sound good?"
Cassie had to struggle just to keep herself from dropping to her knees and kissing Sam's feet for that, but she managed. With a simple nod, she answered with, "Yeah."
Lilly was a bit more publicly enthusiastic, shooting one arm into the air as though receiving food was a huge deal. Or maybe not, since the first words out of her mouth were, "Yay! Do ya have any toys? 'Cause I wanna play with Baby Alex!"
"Well," a faint blush crossed Sam's face, "I never got rid of any of my stuffed animals. But you gotta make sure they've eaten first, okay?"
Alex for her part frowned, "I shuppose dat'd be asseptaba. 'Doh I was weawy wooking fowawd to Sam's cookin'..."
"It sounds great!" Kirk bounced his crush in his arms a little before setting off, "You're really hungry, huh? I can take care of that."
---
"M-Mom!" Embarrassment was a rare emotion (rare even by his standards of never having any emotions beyond cynicism) on the blonde's part, but the entire time he was changed he experienced it.
"Hold still, sweetie. Momma'll be done in a second..." Mother Grey smiled brightly down at her babyfied son, pinning his fresh diaper in place before lifting him up into a hug, "There we go, now we're nice and clean! Doesn't that feel nice, babe?"
"Alright, I guess..." Jason mumbled mostly just because he knew if he didn't reply she'd never stop. "Can you please take me back to my room and let me read my comics?" He sounded about as exasperated as a baby could.
His mother's face fell, "Oh, babe... I'm not sure that's the best thing for you now. Those are so violent..." She carried him into the kitchen, rubbing his back and holding him against her breast, "This is such a nice dream. I forgot how soft and tiny you were. I was even able to clean you off in the sink when you woke up all icky and wet."
Jason rolled his eyes. It was probably better that she thought it was a dream, but it was still a bit frustrating having such a mother. At least -- Jason's thoughts were interrupted as he let out a loud burp.
"Well, I think your milk went down fine." She smiled, giving him a little extra hug and an eskimo kiss, "You're so cute like this... I beat if we went down and looked I could find your old airplane jammies. Would you like that, huh sweetie?"
Were he able to find and grip a sword at that moment Jason would've probably committed hara-kiri, but in his current form that wasn't quite an available option. "Um... no, not particul-" Jason stopped as he shivered a little, noticing how cold he felt in nothing but the piece of cloth pinned onto him.
"Aw, you're chilly, huh?" Mrs. Grey retrieved a clean dishtowel from a drawer, wrapping it around Jason's shoulders as she headed downstairs to the basement. "Try not to breath in too deep. It's dusty down here and that's not good for babies..." To ensure his safety and warmth, she held him closer, putting a tender little kiss on his forehead.
Jason grimaced. This was awful. Things hadn't quite reached Larry levels of catastrophe and it was doubtful they would (being kissed on forehead by mother > being kissed on lips by boy), but that was about the only upside to this.
"Here we go!" Placing her son on a carboard box, Mrs Grey rooted through the box of baby things that she'd already opened that morning for diapers before fianlly pulling out a set of blue baby pajamas, stitched with little red airplanes, "There! Don't these just look so cute? You used to wear these every night..."
Jason silently gagged, partly because of disgust over the idea of ever being so small and partly due to the fact that the dirt in the air wasn't responding well to his constant oxygen intake. "Right. Can we please go upstairs?" He was bored at this point, and he wanted something to do-- preferably something better than watching Sesame Street like she had him doing earlier.
"Sure, sweetie." She scooped him up again, snuggling him close and holding his jammies on their hanger. "This is a really funny dream. I have ones of you as a baby alot, but you never talk in any of them." As they left the basement and went into the hall, she bent her head, trying to see his expression, "You seem really glum too? Is mama's baby feeling grumpy this morning?"
Jason would've probably had some sarcastic reply to this, but he was kinda disturbed that his mom had dreams about him at this age, much less frequently. Who knew what that'd mean for him if she figured out this was reality...
Hearing no reply, Mrs. Grey got a playful look on her face. "Aw, you're not gonna tell Mama why you're so glum?" Placing him on his back against the kitchen counter, she began tickling him in his little tummy with a viciousness unseen by any but the most battle-hardened warriors, "C'mon, now. You were never very ticklish but Mommy could always get out a giggle when she wanted."
Jason decided to fake one, just to please her... and to get her to stop. Even by fake standards it didn't sound very convincing, but Jason hoped it would be enough.
Mrs. Grey wasn't very hard to fool. In a moment she smiled and sat him up again, taking his jammies off their hanger, "That's a good boy. Don't we feel better now?" unbuttoning the back, she began helping her tiny son into the blue pajamas, guiding his hands and feet to the mittened and footed ends.
Jason awkwardly did his part, all while saying, "I think I can dress myself, Mom..." low enough that she likely didn't hear anything but mumbles. After he had been fully dressed, Jason asked, "Can you please let me watch TV or something? Preferably not, you know, kid stuff?"
"Hmmm..." The mother frowned, looking at the teenage expression on his babyface. "I don't like seeing my little boy so frowny. Alright, but I wanna make sure it's nothing too violent..." She carried Jason to the living room, buttoning his sleeper in the back as she sat him in her lap on the couch. Picking up the remote, she helped it into her son's tiny, mittened hands, "Now what do you wanna watch, sweetie?"
Jason thought for a second, trying to decide what was on. What time was it anyway? With a shrug, the blonde boy opened his mouth to respond that he wanted to surf a bit and see what was on when someone knocked on the door.
Mrs. Grey gave a rare frown for a moment before taking her son out of her lap and placing him on the couch alone, "I'll get that, babe. You wait here. Don't try climbing off the couch, okay? I don't want you hurting yourself." Rising from the sofa, she easily walked toward the door, leaving her son by himself.
Jason rolled his eyes, in a manner that screamed both annoyance and bitterness. Someone had to get him out of here or chances are he was going to dive head-first at the coffee table just to make it stop.
"Oh. Hello."
"Hi, uh...." Sam blinked, not knowing what to expect, "We're looking for Ja-"
"Aw, it's Robin!" The blonde mother knelt down, getting face-to-face with her son's miniturized best friend. "Aren't you a little cutie? You came to see Jason, huh?"
Jason raised himself slightly so as to get a better look at his guests. It happened to Robin too-- just perfect.
Robin blinked, astonished. He knew Mrs. Grey was oblivious but this was just.... wow. It was like she was on something. His befuddlement continued as he was picked up and set next to his best friend on the gargantuan couch. "Now you two just play nice while I talk with the nice lady," she said, turning to speak with Sam.
"Sam, huh?" Jason said in as close to his usual dry voice as his high-pitched young one could manage. "I guess it could be worse for ya. Mom could be talking to Jo right now."
Robin stared before turning toward Jason, "I think your mom's passed the point of being really, really out of touch to needing profess- heheh..." He broke off, snickering. "I-I'm sorry, I can't talk seriously when you're wearing those pajamas."
"Are you watching Robin the day, dearie?" came the voices of the grown-ups behind them.
"Uh... y-yes!" Sam put Jo on Jason's other side, letting the babies sit happily on the couch. "I'm uh... I'm from the babysitting service..."
"I guess. She thinks it's a dream, because apparently she dreams about me being all young like this... a lot," Jason scratched his not-quite-as-wild-but-still-pretty-messy hair. "And by the way, when Anne gets back I fully intend to ask her to make you go with us to the mall again."
Robin snickered again, trying to hold it in, "I... heheheh... I can't see you as threatening like this... I'm s-sorry... At least you didn't have to try and sneak out your house in secret. It's hard doing a great escape when you're stuck like this."
"In fact uh...." Sam squirmed, shuffling her feet and praying this would work, "I'm supposed to take Jason out today. You've already paid up front, remember?"
Jason rolled his eyes, at this point contemplating having Anne go one further and put Robyn in such an outfit on her next trip to the mall. "By 'great escape' you mean your brother helped, don't you?" Jason held up the palm of his right hand, as if telling Robin to pause before answering. "More importantly, how exactly did you wind up with Sam anyway?"
"It's a long story," said Robin, turning a little red. "Me and Kirk ran into Cassie, and we had to buy some... clothes." "That sounds lovely," said Mrs. Grey, suddenly scooping up her son and Robin from behind. "You seem really nice, and I'm sure Jason'll have fun with his little friend." Sam picked up Jo again, soon holding all three toddlers placed awkwardly into her arms.
Jason manuevered himself a bit so as to make it at least marginally easier for Sam to hold all three of them. He would've asked to walk, but he had only been able to keep himself standing just for a few seconds when he got up that morning so...
Almost because she knew it would be an inconvenience, Jo reached over and pulled his hair. Jason let out a small welp, before angrily (and cutely) shouting, "What's wrong with you!?"
"Aw, I think she likes you," chimed Mrs. Grey, giggling. She suddenly brightened, looking up at Sam, "Why don't I fix you up a diaper bag? I'm sure I'd feel better if Jason had some of his favorite things when you took him."
Sam smiled, looking a little brighter, "That's a good idea. We're uh... we're actually not sure if we have everything we need...." As the woman walked away to fetch the bag from the basement, Sam bounced Jo a litte, gently scolding her, "Jo, no. That's not nice."
Jason scoffed a little, hoping she wasn't going to be packing up things like old childhood toys but knowing she would. He failed to notice Jo sticking her tongue out at him.
His shoulder being forced against Jason's by the cramped conditions, Robin smirked, "Heh. She does like you. You'd be cute together."
